Read more about this physician's nomination story*:
Dr. Andrus is the Asst. Director of the ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) service, one of the busiest such service in the country. He was recently promoted in the leadership role and over last 1.5 years, he has emerged as a successful leader. He connects to his report staff at a personal level. He is easily approachable and is always available to help out other team-mates. He motivates other team members and leads by example. Other psychiatrists in the team look at him as a role model. As a child psychiatrist, his clinical skills are excellent. There are often ethical dilemmas in treating adolescents who need ECT. Dr. Andrus is a go-to person for the evaluation of such patients. Many of such patients require a thorough evaluation and co-ordination of care. Dr. Andrus spends extra time and effort in coordinating care. One example is a young patient who was referred by community child psychiatrist for ECT treatment to treat a medical issue. Dr. Andrus presented the case to the Ethics committee and interdisciplinary team. The child required some addition investigations (MRI/EEG) to rule out organic causes. Instead of just asking the community psychiatrist to arrange for it, Dr. Andrus took upon himself to coordinate with patient's pediatrician, curbside Northwell Peds Neurology team and arrange for those investigations. During all this process, he kept the family of the child aware of each development. The family was from further away were very much appreciative of Dr. Andrus' efforts and had formed a strong positive opinion for Northwell due to Dr. Andrus putting in extra efforts. There are many such examples where Dr. Andrus has gone above and beyond. He always has a pulse for the situation on the service and is always ready to jump in during any crisis. His leadership and compassionate care deserves a Truly recognition!
