Read more about this physician's nomination story*:

Dr. Pradnya Patil exemplifies the qualities of a rising star in oncology leadership. Since joining Nuvance Health just 2.5 years ago, following advanced training in thoracic oncology, she has made an extraordinary impact on patient care and team dynamics at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Upon arrival, Dr. Patil immediately took initiative to organize and strengthen the multidisciplinary lung cancer team—bringing together interventional pulmonology, radiation oncology, thoracic surgery, and medical oncology to deliver coordinated, high-quality care. Her leadership was quickly recognized, and when the Chief of Oncology stepped down shortly thereafter, Dr. Patil—despite being early in her career and having no prior leadership experience—was entrusted with the role. She stepped into this position with grace, determination, and a clear vision for excellence. Dr. Patil possesses all the hallmarks of a transformational leader: she is passionate, intelligent, organized, compassionate, and even-tempered. Her commitment to improving patient outcomes has never wavered, even as she faced significant operational challenges, including the unexpected departure of another physician and three APPs. These losses placed immense strain on the team, increasing workloads, extending wait times, and heightening the risk of burnout. Dr. Patil responded not with hesitation, but with action. She led by example—maintaining her own clinical excellence while implementing strategic changes to support her team and preserve the highest standards of care. She has taken on some of the most demanding responsibilities, including managing complex interpersonal dynamics, ensuring safe and appropriate coverage despite staffing shortages, and advancing key initiatives such as uncoupling chemotherapy from physician visits and launching pathways software to standardize care. Through it all, Dr. Patil has not only sustained but elevated the quality of lung cancer care at both Vassar Brothers Medical Center and Northern Dutchess Hospital. Her ability to lead with empathy, resilience, and innovation has earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues across disciplines. She is a model of what it means to lead with purpose and integrity, and her contributions have had a lasting impact on both her team and the patients they serve. For her exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication, and transformative impact, Dr. Pradnya Patil is a truly deserving nominee for this award.
