Read more about this physician's nomination story*:
When I did not match into a residency program, Dr. Cocker provided me a wonderful opportunity to assist her with research this year. Even though she is busy with the normal work of an attending on top of her responsibilities as a professor, Dr. Cocker regularly takes the time to speak with me, often for more than an hour each day, to make sure I'm doing well, understanding my responsibilities, working well with the residents and other attendings, and improving myself overall. Under her tutelage, I've grown more confident and capable; I've met several of my predecessors, and they all had a lot to say about the value she provides as a mentor. Despite how urgent some of our responsibilities are, she never once expressed any discontent whenever I needed to take an unexpected day-off for family matters, sick leave, etc. Her first response to such variables was always understanding, focused on how we could readjust and work around the incident. Additionally, even though my foremost responsibility here is to her research, Dr. Cocker has always prioritized my own education and betterment; from encouraging me to participate in the Resident's didactics and events, introducing me to colleagues and facilitating educational opportunities with them, and taking time to go over her own Pathology cases with me one-on-one.
