Read more about this physician's nomination story*:
Since stepping into his physician leadership role several years ago, Dr. Alleva has demonstrated unwavering commitment to his patients, colleagues, mentees, and the wider community. This is evident in every aspect of his work. Even with his responsibilities as a physician administrator, Dr. Alleva maintains his outpatient clinical practice with a steady stream of patients, many of whom openly express their trust in him as a reliable and warmhearted primary care physician. Additionally, he constantly seeks out opportunities for his own professional development in both clinical and administrative skillsets. In the past year alone, he has completed an integrative medicine certificate program and veteran/military health training program through Northwell Health, and became a Certified Menopause Practitioner through the Menopause Society. These were not just done out of his own personal interest, but as a direct result of a need that he observed in his patient population. He has also completed a point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) fellowship through the Global Ultrasound Institute, which is a skill that he employs not only in his own practice, but in his mentorship of students and peers. On the leadership development side, he is currently enrolled in Northwell's Physician Executive/Executive Leadership Program, where he is expanding his aptitude to lead teams and share knowledge across all levels. Dr. Alleva's consistent journey for continuous growth and the undertaking of new initiatives does not end there. This past year, he has also taken greater strides into the world of academic grants and research. This is seen through his authorship of several new publications, his role as the Principal Investigator on two new investigator-initiated research projects, and his successful awarding of funds from the American Board of Family Medicine to spearhead a POCUS training and utilization research project in two family medicine residency programs. This funded program will allow for faculty and resident physicians at these programs to engage in extensive POCUS training, which will allow for the cascade of this skillset throughout Northwell Health's family medicine trainees in anticipation of the new board certification requirement in 2027. Again, this is another example of a tangible solution that Dr. Alleva sought in response to a demonstrated need. These are just a few testaments to his steadfast efforts in not only personal development, but to uplift the larger family medicine community and his patient population as well. Regardless of the existing responsibilities that Dr. Alleva is juggling, he will always approach any new endeavor with a smile and positive outlook. When he is called upon, his response is not "we can't do this," but rather "how can we do this together?" He is both a dependable colleague and a forward-thinker that is enthusiastically contributing to advances in patient care, undergraduate/graduate medical education, and the primary care field as a whole.
