Read more about this physician's nomination story*:
Dr. Ashworth has transitioned LIJMC 8 North from an inpatient oncology unit with various physicians and Advanced Care Practioners to a unit with solid leadership advocating for solid tumor oncology patients with a select group of NPs and PAs. She is always open to finding a solution for issues that come up while managing this complex group of patients. She advocates for each and every patient and is even involved with other patients not under her direct care. During interdisciplinary rounds, she stays to listen to each case and offers her advice or other treatment options where possible. She is always available and is dedicated to every patient. Not only is she dedicated to her patients, but she also advocates for her floor nurses as well. She attends floor rounds, RN meetings, and is involved in committees, even on her off days. She often shares research articles and always stays up to date with the latest treatment options. Dr. Ashworth listens intently to patient and family concerns, giving them her personal phone number to contact her with concerns. She communicates with the outpatient team as well, making sure there is closed-loop communication with the outside team, so everyone is updated accordingly. She's extremely hands on and has jumped in to help nursing staff when she is at the bedside. As a unit, the staff on 8 north truly feels she is well deserving of this award. Sincerely, The 8 North team
