Under the leadership of Dr. Loukas Boutis, our chairman of Cardiology, the Cardiac Catheterization lab at Plainview hospital opened for service on June 6, 2023, marking a significant milestone in expanding access to cardiac care within the community. The lab provides both emergency and elective interventional treatments, offering patients faster and timely access to the highest standard of cardiac care. In the beginning, Dr. Boutis served as the only interventionalist and worked tirelessly to ensure that quality and patient safety were paramount. From clinical protocols and staff education to equipment selection and post-procedure care, every element aligned with best practice. Dr. Boutis emphasized this commitment from the onset which not only laid a strong foundation for the program's success but also helped to build trust and confidence among our patients and team members. Through a strategic and multipronged approach - including EMS roadshows, community engagement, and physician outreach - the cath lab has become a center for cardiac excellence. The program has added a second interventionalist and Dr. Boutis has provided tremendous support and mentorship to this young physician. Dr. Boutis' availability and purposeful determination are commendable and key reasons to the success of this program. The impressive quality outcomes are a testament to the skillsets, expertise and collaborative spirit of all team members. Excellent patient experience scores further underscore the strong emphasis Dr. Boutis has placed on patient-centered care- an especially critical focus given that many patients arrive under the stress of unplanned, urgent cardiac events requiring immediate intervention. Building upon the early success of the lab, the program recently expanded to include electrophysiology and advanced cardiac imaging to address other gaps in services. As services that complement our diagnostic capabilities, Dr. Boutis continues to look for ways to drive purposeful growth for our patients. In addition, the program is actively evaluating the integration of additional cardiac imaging and interventional services to expand its scope and enhance its capabilities. These efforts aim to build a truly comprehensive cardiovascular care model and prioritize the patient at the front of everything we do. While a cath lab may not be revolutionary, our example challenges the paradigm of what a community hospital can achieve and offer to the local community. With clear vision, guidance, and active engagement, Dr Boutis has helped cultivate a culture of camaraderie, excellence, and shared purpose, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in community-based cardiac care. Dr. Boutis' continued focus on quality and patient-centered care have transformed cardiac services in our community.
