Dr Carpenter has spent his career taking care of LGBTQ populations across the country and Northwell was fortunate enough to recruit him to build out the Inclusive Primary Care Center at MEETH, transforming what was an HIV Clinic into a thriving, expanding site with the broader mission of providing inclusive primary healthcare to all, including a full scope of comprehensive services for LGBTQ patients. He has embraced the vision of Northwell becoming the leading hospital system in New York City, serving our 800,000 LGBTQ residents. To do so, he is mentoring an impressive clinical team, including physicians now in their second year of practice. These physicians exemplify the future of healthcare for LGBTQ and other underserved patients. He uses his mentorship, wisdom, and experience to support and develop these physicians who in turn are training Internal medicine residents in the newly created LGBTQ Track. He understands the necessity of fiscal responsibility, identifies & builds on individuals' strengths within his team, and addresses challenged that arise in the moment. For example, identifying & supporting one physician's interest in academia has fast-tracked curriculum development in the LGBTQ Track and provided an opportunity for career development to one of his mentees. Of note, he assumed his position when the site was in a time of crisis, and successfully stabilized a struggling site, built team cohesiveness, onboarded and trained new staff, successfully advocated for an expanded location, managed the move, orchestrated a thoughtful & deliberate renaming and rebranding of the clinic and has set a path for onward growth and expansion of this vital lifeline of care to many vulnerable patients.
